How does it work?

If you have been unable to sort out the problem by speaking to the other person at the beginning of the dispute, you should contact Bath Area Mediation. We will arrange to visit you at a time and place to suit you. When you meet with the mediators you can tell them more about the problem from your point of view.

It might be enough just to talk over the problem with someone who is not involved in any way. It might help you alter how you see things. Mediators could visit the other parties involved in the dispute, with your consent, to hear their side of the story.

Then we would do what we could to help you resolve the problem in a way in which both sides will benefit. This might involve a joint meeting between mediators and the parties involved in the dispute. The meeting will be held somewhere like a village hall or community centre.

Nothing is done without your consent - it is a completely voluntary process. Of course, there is no guarantee that mediation will work. If it doesn't mediators will talk to you about other options. If it turns out that mediation is not appropriate for your problem, mediators will talk to you about other options.

REMEMBER: The longer a dispute goes on, the harder it is to resolve.
